Family Holidays in Sri Lanka for Every Generation

Elephants, beaches and gentle adventures for all ages.

Create My Journey

Travelling as a family is about shared moments: a child’s first sight of a wild elephant, building sandcastles on a quiet beach, or grandparents and grandchildren exploring a temple together. We plan family journeys with realistic travel days, comfortable rooms and plenty of downtime.

A family holiday in Sri Lanka brings wildlife, beaches, history and train rides together in one trip, with a private driver-guide and a spacious vehicle making every transfer easier. Tell us the ages in your group and we will suggest a pace that suits everyone.

Where family holidays shine

Sri Lanka

Elephants, trains and beaches

Udawalawe National Park is often a favourite with children thanks to its elephant herds, though wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Pair it with a ride on the hill country railway and a few nights on the south-west coast, where some beaches have calmer water in season.

Sri Lanka

Culture made fun

Climbing Sigiriya feels like a real adventure for older children, and the cave paintings at Dambulla spark plenty of questions. In Kandy, a visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and a walk around the lake make for an easy, rewarding day.

Cool air in tea country

The hill country is a welcome change of temperature. Children can watch tea being plucked and processed on an estate visit, try a short nature walk and enjoy a lazy afternoon in the gardens of a colonial-era bungalow around Nuwara Eliya.

Calm bays on the east coast

From around April or May to September, the east coast is often at its best. Pasikuda’s long, shallow bay is a gentle place for younger swimmers, while Trincomalee adds boat trips and beaches. Always follow local advice on sea conditions.

Questions

Family holidays: good to know

Is Sri Lanka suitable for young children?

Many families travel with young children. We plan shorter driving days, choose hotels with family rooms and pools, and suggest activities that suit their ages.

Can you arrange child seats?

Please let us know the ages of your children when you enquire and we will ask about child seats for your vehicle and confirm with you what can be arranged.

Are safaris safe for children?

Jeep safaris are a popular family activity and your guide will follow park rules. Some parks and operators have age guidance, which we check when planning.

Can grandparents join a family trip?

Of course. Multi-generation journeys work well with a private van and a relaxed pace, and we can note any mobility needs when choosing hotels and activities.
